Description
The Skrong Arm Merkin – Blue Crab is a proven flats crab pattern designed to imitate a fleeing blue crab under pressure. Tied by Mac Flies on a #2 saltwater hook, this pattern features a realistic profile, balanced weight, and a durable weed guard for confident presentations in grass, shell, and structure-heavy environments.
Built to ride correctly and move naturally along the bottom, this pattern excels when fish are keyed in on crabs and feeding tight to structure. Subtle material movement on both the strip and pause closely mimics the defensive behavior of real blue crabs, triggering confident eats from flats species.
This fly is highly effective for permit, redfish, and bonefish, especially in shallow flats and pressured conditions where snag resistance and accuracy are critical.
