The short answer: the Marsh Series is nine Louisiana-tested flies built for the fall bull redfish run and the year-round marsh fishery that surrounds it. Big profile bulls, low-profile slot-red hunters, one crawfish, and a bug — the full toolbox for Delta water. Every pattern was designed on the water it fishes.
The bull red patterns (for the fall run)
LA Roughneck
Large-profile bull streamer on Ahrex SA270. Foxy Brush and schlappen for maximum water push in dirty fall water. Fish it slow on a sinking-tip when big reds are pushing bait in 3-6 feet.
Bull of the Bayou
Our signature bull red pattern. Big, bright, unmissable. Fish it when the water is dirty and the reds are hunting by feel. Works on tarpon and snook in the same water.
Bull Red Fred
The cleaner-water bull fly. Baitfish profile, natural colors, tied to swim naturally on the strip and pause. Fish it when the water clears up between fronts.
Bedhead Bull
Marabou craft-fur bull streamer with bead-chain eyes. Lands softer than the big dumbbell bulls, perfect when you're sight-casting to cruisers on 2-3 foot flats.
Big Moppa
The mop-fly bull. Slow-sinking, huge silhouette, deadly in stained water where the reds want a big meal and a slow presentation. Also crushes tarpon and snook.
Bull Dozer
Named for the way it pushes water. Big profile, aggressive tracking, works redfish and largemouth bass equally well.
The slot-red and everyday patterns
Small Fry
Baitfish streamer for slot reds and speckled trout. Marabou and EP Brush for movement, size-2 for skinny water. Every marsh box should have three of these.
Crazy Crawdaddy
The Marsh Series crawfish. Fishes redfish, black drum, largemouth, and smallmouth. Louisiana fish eat crawfish year-round.
Bayou Bug
Bass, panfish, redfish, black drum, permit — the "bug" is a shrimp-body pattern that catches everything with fins in Louisiana water.
When to fish the Marsh Series
September-November — Bull red run. Fish LA Roughneck, Bull of the Bayou, and Big Moppa in stained water. Switch to Bull Red Fred and Bedhead Bull when it clears.
Year-round — Small Fry, Crazy Crawdaddy, and Bayou Bug for slot reds, black drum, and everything else that swims in the marsh.
How the Marsh Series is built
Every fly is hand-tied in Louisiana on saltwater-grade hooks. We designed and fished every pattern in this collection ourselves on the Delta, Barataria, Venice, and Lafitte water they were built for. If a fly doesn't survive a bull red, a strike-and-miss, and another cast without falling apart, it doesn't go in the box.
Building your first Marsh Series box for the fall run? Start with three bulls (LA Roughneck, Bull of the Bayou, Bedhead Bull), one clean-water bull (Bull Red Fred), and two everyday patterns (Small Fry and Crazy Crawdaddy). Six flies covers the entire fall Delta.
