The Crab Flies Collection from FINATICS is built to fool the smartest fish on the flats — redfish, permit, bonefish, and striped bass that make a living hunting crustaceans.
Each hand-tied pattern is crafted to perfectly mimic the size, profile, and movement of a live crab. Whether you’re sight-casting to tailing fish in skinny water or working tidal edges and mangroves, these flies land soft, sink right, and move naturally to trigger confident eats.
Made with premium, saltwater-resistant materials, our crab flies are designed for durability and lifelike performance. From classic Merkin-style patterns to innovative, weighted designs that stay balanced and ride hook-up, this collection gives you every tool you need to match the hatch in any condition.
When it comes to fooling the pickiest fish in the marsh, this is where confidence starts.
How to fish a crab fly
Crab flies work because a crab doesn't flee — it settles. Lead a tailing or cruising fish and let the fly drop into its path. Most takes come on the fall or the first short strip. Give it a small twitch to kick the legs, then let it sit on the bottom. Resist the urge to keep stripping; a crab that stops moving looks alive to a redfish or permit.
How to choose the right one
- Depth & fish size: heavier, larger patterns (#2) for deeper water and big redfish or permit; lighter, smaller ties for skinny water and spooky bonefish.
- Bottom color: tan and mottled patterns over sand and turtle grass, olive over grass beds and marsh edges, brighter or hot-spot colors for off-color water.
- Presentation: pick a pattern that lands soft — a heavy splashdown spooks flats fish.
