Description
The Gotcha is the most-fished bonefish pattern in the world. This is the Heavy version — same proven silhouette, but with small lead dumbbell eyes instead of bead chain. That extra weight gets the fly down through wind and current so it lands in front of the fish and hits bottom fast.
Every fly is built on a Gamakatsu SL11-3H — the 3X-strong tin-plated saltwater hook that guides in Belize, the Bahamas, Christmas Island, and Turks & Caicos trust for permit-caliber pressure. Pink thread hot spot at the head. Craft fur wing. Holographic flash tail. Small lead eyes. Rides hook-point up on the flats.
Three proven colors:
- Tan — matches spawning shrimp on marl bottoms and tan sand. Universal starting color for any flat.
- Pearly White — for bright sun, white sand, and clear water. When bones are spooky and you need a lighter presentation, throw white.
- Orange Tango — hot orange thread band on white body. The "come look" color for grubbing bones on grass and mixed bottom, and for triggering reaction strikes from cruising permit.
What eats it: Bonefish primarily. Small permit will inhale a Gotcha Heavy in Orange Tango. Redfish on the marsh will crush the tan version. Baby tarpon in mangrove creeks. Even sheepshead when a shrimp is what they want.
How to fish it: Lead the fish, let it sink, short strips with pauses. On deeper flats or in wind, the lead eyes are the difference between the fly being seen and being blown off the flat. Strip-set hard on the eat.
