Description
Blue-Winged Olive (BWO)
Finatics Fly Company
When trout start sipping like they’re at afternoon tea, it’s time to break out the Blue-Winged Olive. This high-floating BWO dun pattern is a dead ringer for the tiny mayflies that hatch like clockwork in spring and fall—and the trout absolutely know it.
Tied with a slim olive body, upright wings, and just enough hackle to stay high and dry, this pattern shines on slow pools, technical tailwaters, and pressured fish that won’t look at bigger bugs. Whether you’re matching a full hatch or prospecting on a cloudy afternoon, the Blue-Winged Olive belongs on your leader.
Why it earns its keep:
-
Realistic BWO mayfly profile with high float performance
-
Olive body and gray wing match Baetis duns to a T
-
Upright hackle keeps it floating in slow slicks and light chop
-
Tied on a strong barbed hook for reliable hooksets
-
One of the most important dry flies in the world, period
